Kindergarten - Alef Class

Shalom, and Welcome to Kindergarten!

I am Heather McKay, and I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten at B’nai Israel this year!  I am from Northern Nevada and I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from BYU-Idaho. After graduating, I taught middle school band and music in the Phoenix, Arizona area and in Idaho.  When we moved to East Lansing, Michigan, I decided to focus on being a mom and teaching private flute and piano lessons.  Last year, I went back to school for my master’s degree in elementary education at the University of Florida, completing a year-long internship in second grade.  I love spending time with my family, and have noticed how my children’s interests have inspired my lessons.  My daughter loves writing, crafts, and music.  My son loves science experiments, STEM projects, and reading.  I can’t wait to get to know your children, and to incorporate their interests in class!

Hi, my name is Rebekah. This is my second year working at B’nai Israel, but I have been very involved, both with the synagogue and day school for over 5 years. I have worked with every age group, but especially enjoyed the Three year-olds. I am in my second year of college at Santa Fe and am studying family, youth, and community sciences. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to work as a counselor in Vermont at Camp Lochearn this summer, as well as making birthright to Israel, an unforgettable experience. In my free time, I like to sing and be in the outdoors. I also work at Chavaya (religious school) on Sundays with Kindergarteners and 1st graders, preparing students for their bar and bat mitzvahs. I can’t wait for an amazing year!
